Rooted in traditional Japanese workwear, the Studio D’Artisan Noragi Sashiko Shirt is a faithful reinterpretation of the historic noragi—garments once worn daily by farmers and craftsmen and repaired repeatedly through sashiko stitching to extend their lifespan. For this version, Studio D’Artisan recreates traditional Noragi Sashiko patterns, producing a richly textured fabric with subtle depth and character. The sashiko motifs form an irregular, check-like surface inspired by hand-stitched garments, while the deep indigo tones will continue to evolve beautifully with wear and washing.
The fabric is jacquard-woven, combining slub yarns and twisted yarns in different directions to recreate the warmth and irregularity of hand-made textiles. During the washing process, the fabric is intentionally allowed to shrink slightly, resulting in a dense, sturdy surface with pronounced texture that feels substantial yet comfortable.
